About the woman behind the belly dancer
"And, as BRCA+ woman who just underwent a mastectomy, I thank you
for your research. Mine is estrogen receptor negative. You're a
very interesting woman - beauty and brains. Dynamite combo. I wish
you well." -Donna Nyla Crystal began taking belly dance lessons as a way to relieve stress in college while earning her B.S. in Biotechnology at the University of California at Davis. Little did she know that it would soon become an all consuming obsession. Her background of ballet, tap dance, jazz dance, lyrical and cheerleading, combined with the graceful, feminine and emotional aspects of Middle Eastern dance result in her unique style of belly dance. She has received extensive training in Egyptian and Turkish belly dance styles from world-renowned instructors and enjoys sharing her knowledge and her passion for belly dance with others. Nyla Crystal has performed belly dance in Tokyo and Kyoto, Japan and taught a week long belly dance workshop series in Reykjavik, Iceland. She was a featured workshop instructor at the Floralia Belly Dance Festival for the Goddess in Truth or Consequences, NM. Performance highlights:
Recently, Nyla Crystal passed her qualifying exam for a Ph.D. program in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at UC Davis where she is researching the molecular pathways of estrogen receptor positive breast cancer. Now you can entertain your guests with a Ph.D. candidate belly dancer! When she is not sleeping or at school, she is dancing. |
