Magdalena Banquet hall

Beautiful room set up at the Magdalena Banquet Hall

Located in San Francisco on Balboa St. in the Richmond District, the Magdalena Banquet Hall is the perfect place for San Francisco family events and wedding receptions. Magdalena takes one event at a time so she can personally oversee and attend to all of your guests (up to 120).

From the moment I pulled up to the venue, the valet attendant opened my car door and helped me carry in my costume bag and my sword. I walked in the Magdalena Banquet Hall and was immediately impressed with the elegant set up. Complete with chandeliers, beautiful wall treatments, and a dance floor, this venue was the perfect size for a formal intimate party.

I was warmly greeted by the owner, Magdalena, and whisked away through black velvet curtains to the back room to get ready for my surprise belly dance performance. Everyone from the staff members to the DJ were extremely friendly and their good moods lent to the overall jovial atmosphere of the family party.

In order to surprise her friends and family, the party hostess and birthday girl, Larisa, and I carefully planned out the details of the belly dance performance for her event. She had also hired an Armenian band to play for dancing and wanted everyone to be ready to hit the dance floor after the birthday belly dance entertainment. We decided that the best time for the show would be at the end of dinner and after my 20 minute show, I would encourage everyone to come to the dance floor and belly dance with me so they would be ready to continue dancing when the band started up again.

She also voiced a little concern that her grandparents and small children would be present. I assured her that my family-friendly performances were completely appropriate for all ages and had her view some of my performance videos to help put her mind at ease.

At Larisa’s special request, I performed in my nicest red costume (her favorite color) and included energetic, upbeat songs to match the celebratory mood of her 40th birthday party jubilee.

The performance was a hit and a great surprise for the family. They liked the drum solo dance with finger cymbal playing the best. Although Larisa was doubtful that I could get most of her shy Armenian family up to the dance floor with me, I successfully had her sisters, brothers, uncles, aunts, nieces, cousins and even grandma up dancing to the catchy Middle Eastern pop music.

Larisa’s family birthday party was a great success and so much fun for her, her family, the staff at Magdalena Banquet Hall and me! If you ever had any doubt in your mind about belly dance entertainment at your family party, I hope this story dispels it.
