February, the month of love

It doesn’t matter whether you are in a relationship or not. The most important question is: do you love yourself? You should! You are gorgeous and have many talents that make you amazing. Take some time to think and reflect about what they are. Find your favorite feature (eyes, hair, back, legs, etc.) and play it up in your dancing. This will help you become a more confident dancer and really wow your audience when you perform whether it is for a crowd of 1000 or for your pet fish. Being self confident (but not egotistical) will help you in all areas of life so find what you are proud of and remember that talent/feature whenever you are feeling down.

Int/adv choreography class will remain on Tuesdays starting January 11th from 9pm to 10:20 pm. An exciting new routine will be taught so don’t miss out on the chance to join the Kanz al Sahara Student Troupe! Bring your zills or purchase Soroyan Nefertiti Zills from Amazon.com

Remember, the Kanz al Sahara choreography class is for students at the intermediate or advanced level. If you are interested in joining the troupe, please contact me. Build experience and learn the essential belly dance moves from Valeriya in her technique class.

Elizabeth Strong – amazing belly dance fusion artist, toured with Belly Dance Superstars, currently on tour with Jillina’s Evolution show and part of Zoe Jakes’ dance company for Beats Antique.

Terry Del Giorgio – The best of the best and my greatest belly dance influence. If you ever get the chance to study with her in Marin, I highly suggest it! She has performed for industry greats like Francis Ford Coppola, George Lucas, Shirley MacClain, Nicholas Cage and King Hussein and Queen Nour and other members of Arab royalty in one of the King’s last trips to America before his death in 1995. Wow!

Love is universal, love touches us all, yet can be elusive, dangerous, daring and sometimes…deadly. Historical Femme Fatales come to life, jumping off pages of history books, tin types, old paintings and holy books, and reinact tales of the ultimate sacrifice…Love.

Two worlds collide as Kardash’s original score weaves a sonic spell and musical landscape, evoking tales of love and loss, melancholy and joy, soul searching and sacrifice, revelry and revenge.

Don’t miss this multicultural night of music and dance extravaganza at the Red Poppy Art House “an international neighborhood micro-center for artistic and intercultural life in San Francisco”.

I know it is a Thursday, but come out if you can. The show will be amazing!

Kanz al Sahara

Kanz al Sahara did an excellent job at the Sacramento belly dance showcase on Jan. 20th. The drum solo was fierce and Kallista did a great job with improv to live music. Here is the write up by the Sacramento Press. Click here.

Stay Tuned – Kanz al Sahara will also be performing for UC Davis Picnic Day and Whole Earth Festival, Holmes Middle School International Festival, Carnival of Stars, Desert Dance Festival and hosting a dancer’s night at El Morocco!

Middle Eastern Recipe of the Month – Rose and vanilla ice cream

Not really a recipe, but a great idea for a Valentine’s Day inspired dessert
Ingredients:
2 scoops of Vanilla ice cream
1 tsp of RoohAfza or rose syrup (you can buy this at the International Food Market on E. 8th St.  by the dollar store)
a pinch of tukmaria seeds, basil seeds or Sabza ginjalu

Happy February!
